Dagenham & Redbridge boss Ben Strevens admitted their FA Trophy exit at the hands of Peterborough Sports was a 'disappointment and embarrassment'.

Sam Ling's early header was cancelled out by the visitors in the second half, before the National League North outfit went on to win 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

And Strevens didn't think his National League side did enough to win the tie at Victoria Road in the 90 minutes.

"It's disappointment, embarrassment would probably be a word," he told the club website.

"I didn't feel we did enough over the course of the 90 minutes to come in with any disappointment about going out.

"I didn't feel like we did enough as the home team, as the team from a higher division, in front of our fans, to try and get through to the next round.

"They've come here and got the result for themselves and move forward in the competition and we certainly have the feeling of massive disappointment right now."

Ling headed home at the far post after a cross from Harry Phipps on 17 minutes to put Daggers in front, but Michael Gash got the visitors back on terms seven minutes after the restart.

And the hosts saw Freddie Sears and the returning Conor Lawless denied in the shoot-out as their miserable home form continued.

"The culmination of the home form has come to a massive head," added Strevens.

"I thought people looked scared to give the ball away today, scared to play forward at times. There was a lack of intensity in our press, to win the ball back.

"We was quite open. I know we had chances at the back end of the game to win the tie but I certainly felt they were going to get chances going the other way as well."

Daggers have won three and lost eight of their 11 league matches at home this season and Strevens admits it is a huge worry.

"The home form has been a concern for me right from the word go, losing against Southend and Gateshead in the first two games we had," he said.

"I expected them two teams to be there or thereabouts in terms of good teams in the league, but it's not got any better from that.

"We had a little run of games where we beat Barnet and Fylde and picked that result up against Woking without playing really well that day.

"Today was a massive disappointment. Putting trust in a lot of people, I felt really let down.

"I look inwardly at myself, rather than look at anyone else. I feel I've let myself down because I'm not getting things right.

"If we play the way we did today and don't perform, I've got to take the brunt of that, I don't want to hide behind anyone else.

"What a Dagenham & Redbridge team and player looks like, that wasn't it today. That was the whole collective, everything. That wasn't Dagenham & Redbridge today."
