Keep fit fans have been peddling away competing in a friendly contest for breast cancer research.
An 18-hour cycling challenge was staged at Abbey Leisure Centre in Barking and the Becontree Heath Leisure Centre which has raised £2,000 so far.
Stationary bikes were set up in the reception areas with volunteers taking turns to pedal throughout the day, collectively covering 1,000km.
Abbey reached 400km — but Becontree topped the contest with 600km.
“The community spirit has been inspiring,” Barking and Dagenham leisure centres’ area contract manager Hasan Romel said.
“The critical health issue of breast cancer reinforces the impact that leisure facilities have beyond physical fitness.”
The centres aim to raise £50,000 by 2025 for more research by Breast Cancer Now and The Ben Kinsella Trust.
