A new health centre has opened as part of the Beam Park regeneration project.

The Beam Park Health Centre, occupying two floors of a 12-storey building in Halewood Way, will provide healthcare services to thousands of people living in the area.

It will include a GP surgery – Beam Park Medical Practice – and other specialist community and mental health services.

The centre has already started welcoming patients and was officially opened on October 1, with health leaders and politicians, including Dagenham and Rainham MP Margaret Mullane and Havering Council leader Ray Morgon in attendance.

They were given a tour of the centre, which includes 22 consulting rooms, three interview rooms, one enhanced treatment room, and an office with space for 25 desks.

Cllr Morgon said: "The new, modern facilities will help to deliver our promises to tackle health inequalities in some areas of the borough, and with around 44 per cent of the area allocated to publicly accessible green space, it will make it easier for residents to be physically active and maintain a healthy lifestyle."

The health centre was agreed as part of the planning approval for the regeneration of the former Ford car factory site by Countryside Partnerships and L&Q.

The health centre part of the project was led by NHS North East London, working closely with Barking and Dagenham and Havering Councils, and the two developers.

Sarah See, managing director for primary care at NHS North East London, said: "It’s really exciting to see this fantastic new health centre open and delivering services.

"It will be a huge asset to the local community for many years to come."

Ms Mullane recently wrote to the government calling for progression on the scheme for a Beam Park train station to serve the area.

She said: "To fulfil the promise to local residents at Beam Park we also must have the station at Beam Park."
