A hospital car park in Romford has now fully reopened after undergoing months long "essential improvement" works. 

The top floor of Queen's Hospital car park is open to patients and visitors from today (September 26). 

The car park closed to the public, including staff, on July 20, making more than 1,100 spaces temporarily unavailable for an initial three weeks.

It underwent a phased reopening of certain levels following the total three-week closure, as the works were completed to each storey.

The "essential improvement works" were originally intended to complete on September 16.

Car park users can expect to see resurfaced floors, new pedestrian walkways and improved lighting and doors in response to a review by health and safety inspectors that sparked the closure. 

Their visit found: "The lighting wasn’t good enough; the layout wasn’t safe for pedestrians; the doors were too heavy to open for parents with children and those with disabilities; and the tarmac on the roof had suffered significant sun damage". 

BHRUT took to its Facebook page yesterday (September 25) to confirm the works were to complete on schedule.
