A Tesco Express worker in Dagenham has been taken to hospital after being sprayed with a substance in a "chemical incident".
Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called to Oxlow Lane at 3.49pm on July 31 with reports of an injured man in the Tesco store.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) were called with reports of a "chemical incident" at the address, dispatching two fire engines from Dagenham and Ilford stations.
At the scene, police said a member of store staff had been involved in an altercation with a customer.
The customer is alleged to have left the store before returning a short while later and spraying the male worker with an unknown substance.
An LFB spokesperson said: "Firefighters delivered immediate emergency care on-scene to one man and worked to make the scene safe.
"The brigade was called at 3.53pm and the incident was over for firefighters at 4.25pm."
The victim was taken to hospital where his injuries have been confirmed as non-life threatening.
Police enquiries are under way to identify and apprehend the suspect.
