GP practices across Barking and Dagenham have issued updates on their services amid major IT outages. 

The websites of a number of local GP surgeries have been updated with statements regarding the ongoing issue, which is thought to be affecting facilities globally. 

Shops, trains and pharmacies have also been impacted.

It comes as Microsoft was affected by an issue with Crowdstrike cybersecurity software. 

Victoria Medical Centre in Queens Road, Barking, and Five Elms Medical Practice in Five Elms Road, Dagenham are currently displaying the same message, urging patients to use the NHS app. 

The notice reads: "Due to a national outage of our clinical system, we are currently unable to process online forms.

"For urgent medical assistance, please contact the practice directly or call NHS 111. Thank you for your understanding."

John Smith Medical Centre in Bevan Avenue, Barking has also been affected. 

The clinic has warned service users of "significant delays". 

Their statement said: "Due to a national outage of our clinical records system, we are currently unable to access patient's medical records. 

"Please be aware there may be significant delays in accessing our care today. 

"We apologise for this and are working to fix the problem as soon as possible."

NHS England has confirmed they are aware of the global IT outage, confirming the matter is an issue with EMIS which is affecting "the majority of GP practices". 

The system serves as the group's appointment and patient record system.

“There is currently no known impact on 999 or emergency services, so people should use these services as they usually would.

“Patients should attend appointments unless told otherwise. Only contact your GP if it’s urgent, and otherwise please use 111 online or call 111″.

Halbutt Street Surgery in Dagenham has confirmed the IT issue has also posed problems for it.

The surgery has been unable to log-on to their computers to book or change appointments, or order medication. 

Barking Medical Group Practice in Upney Lane has advised "this is beyond the control of GP surgeries". 

Abbey Medical Centre in Harpour Road is also displaying a warning message on its website.

  • Orchards Health and Family Centre, Gascoigne Road, Barking
