A main road in Barking is set to close for two days for surfacing works.

Bastable Avenue will be closed to traffic on Wednesday, July 31 and Thursday, August 1, including the suspension of resident permit holders only zones along the street.

The closure is due to carriageway surfacing works on a new raised table.

The work, set to be carried out between 8pm and 5am, is expected to be completed by August 1, but the order will stay in place for 18 months if further work is needed.

While work is underway, no traffic will be allowed on Bastable Avenue, both sides, from its junction with Hockley Mews to its junction with Charlton Crescent.

Curzon Crescent will also be closed on both sides from its junction with Bastable Avenue through to the Stanley Avenue junction.

Bastable Avenue will also be closed from its junction with River Road through its junction with Hockley Mews, and from Charlton Crescent all the way through to Renwick Road, except for those requiring access.

The bus lane on the westbound carriageway of Bastable Avenue will be suspended for a 24-metre stretch from its junction with Renwick Road.

The new order will also suspend resident permit holder-only zones between 8.30am and 5.30pm at certain parts of Bastable Avenue and Curzon Crescent.

Other suspensions include the three electric vehicle charging only bays on Bastable Avenue's south side and part of the resident permit holders only zone on Curzon Crescent's south-west side.

There will be alternative routes for traffic, which will be maintained and signed.
