A young man has been taken to hospital after a shooting in Dagenham.
Police were called to Porters Avenue shortly after 1pm this afternoon (June 5) to reports of a shooting.
At the scene, emergency services found a man, believed to be aged 22, suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.
The man was rushed to hospital where his injuries have been assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.
An investigation is under way, but no arrests have been made at this stage.
London’s Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service attended the scene alongside Metropolitan Police officers.
People have been advised that they can expect to see an increased police presence in the immediate area in the coming hours.
Barking and Dagenham Council has told people to avoid the area.
The authority said that Porters Avenue is currently closed in both directions between Wren Road and Gale Street.
