A man who had his keyless truck stolen from his driveway in Chadwell Heath has urged people to use steering wheel disc locks to protect their vehicles.

The cleaning business owner, who did not want to be named, told this paper that the incident happened on Sunday (May 19) at around 3.57am at his home in Somerville Road.

CCCTV footage of the incident appears to show two masked men, one of whom appeared to have a laptop strapped on him, entering the driveway and fleeing with the truck within seconds.

The business owner said the truck was used since 2019 for jobs that required carrying equipment.

He explained that it will not be able to do these until he gets a replacement vehicle.

His wife’s Range Rover car, parked just next to the truck, was however left untouched and he said that was owing to there being a disc lock on it.

“I didn’t really think anyone would be interested in stealing my truck," he said. 

"You don’t think this will happen to you, but it does and unfortunately the probability in our areas is quite high. So, I really want people to be aware about  disc locks and not let them (the suspects) win”, he said.

He further added that he had faced hurdles with his insurance claim and while the case was reported to the police, it was closed.

“People think they have insurance and its going to be fine. But it is a lot of hassle. You don’t want to go through that.

“So, we need to do what we can to stop this from happening by taking precautions and spending money on these disc locks”, he said.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the vehicle was reported stolen, and officers carried out an investigation to look for possible lines of enquiries.

“We were unable to identify any suspects and the probe is now complete.

"But should any further leads become available, this matter will be re-opened”, a police spokesperson said.
