A major road between Havering and Thurrock could be shut at nights for 18 months to undergo repairs.

National Highways, in a notice published on Thursday (May 9), has revealed that it intends to make an order concerning the A13 because works are proposed to be executed on the road starting on or after Sunday (May 19).

The order is expected to stay in place for 18 months and will see overnight closures from 10pm to 5.30am between Mondays and Thursdays, from 11pm to 6am on Saturdays and 10.30pm to 5.30am on Sundays.

As a result, both carriageways of the A13 would be shut in phases during these hours between Wennington Interchange (A1306) and Mar Dyke Interchange (M25 Junction 30).

All the slip and link roads leading to and from the said carriageways will also be impacted and closed overnight.

These measures, National Highways said in the notice, would be in the interests of road safety while contractors carry out bridge deck and carriageway repairs and all associated works.

The order will cease when the works are complete and includes closures on the A20 and parts of M25 not relevant to this area.

A diversion route via the A1306 and the distribution roads connecting Junctions 30 and 31 on the A282 Dartford Crossing will run on these nights.

“The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period”, National Highways added.
