A school in Dagenham that introduced new sixth-form courses to help SEND pupils continue their studies has been shortlisted for an inclusivity award. 

Dagenham Park Church of England School in School Road has been shortlisted as a nominee for a Tes School Award. 

The awards cover 21 categories and seek to celebrate success across the education sector.

The secondary school is one of just eight schools to have been shortlisted for the Inclusive School of the Year award.

In the school's latest Ofsted report from 2020, inspectors highlighted the school's SEND provisions which included personalised learning programmes, new sixth-form courses to allow students to continue at the school, and access to the same subjects as other pupils.

Headteacher Chris Ash said: "I am delighted that Dagenham Park has been shortlisted for such a prestigious award.

"The school is committed to creating an inclusive environment where all children are supported regardless of their needs.

"The school has worked extremely hard to create a caring and nurturing setting and this nomination recognises the hard work and dedication from everyone at Dagenham Park School."
