A plumbing apprentice has wrenched up a double win in two national competitions for student plumbers.
Daisy Turner, 24, who studies at Barking and Dagenham College, won the 2024 HIP Female Skills Competition.
Daisy also clinched the Learner of the Year title at the national finals in Birmingham competing against students from all over the country.
“I still can’t believe it,” Daisy admits. “Winning the Female Skills contest and the Learner of the Year competition in the space of a week has been unbelievable, truly overwhelming.”
Her bumper prizes include £750 gift vouchers, tools and protective work clothing. She also takes away materials used in her final test such as a boiler, hot water cylinder, pump, radiator, shower and plumbing materials.
Daisy, from Rochford in Essex, is now preparing for the WorldSkills competition, supported by her college tutor Lee Regan and her employers Toucan Plumbing in Benfleet.
Around 1,000 apprentices are being trained a year at Barking and Dagenham College with 300 employers in intermediate, advanced and higher apprenticeships.
