A closed Indian restaurant and a former print shop in Chadwell Heath will be turned into new flats. 

Signcraft Signs and Tamarind in High Road will be converted into five new flats after planning permission was approved by Barking and Dagenham Council on April 24. 

The planning proposal was submitted to the council on March 5 by Fitzwilliam Trustees No1 & No2 as trustee of the Wanstead Holdings Property Unit Trust.

Indian restaurant Tamarind is permanently closed, according to Google Maps, and Elliott Miller (who previously leased the retail space for Signcraft Signs) said he moved out months ago.

He said: "I've not been in there for at least nine months now. I used to rent the shop but I don't rent it anymore.

The print shop used to be at 244 High Road, whilst Tamarind stretches across 246-248 High Road. 

Work is expected to start in September, with an estimated completion date in January 2025.
