A pie and mash shop in Dagenham has confirmed its reopening date months after it was damaged when a car crashed into it.

Eastbrook Pie & Mash (also known as Brook Pie & Mash) in Dagenham Road will reopen on Sunday (April 7) after three months of closure. 

The restaurant was forced to close on January 1 after a car repeatedly reversed into the shopfront, causing major damage. 

The business has been run by Zali Emin and her husband Abdi Cetinkayali for more than 20 years. 

They confirmed that they will sell the same items as were previously on the menu at the same prices, and will even be bringing back all the same staff. 

April Mehmet, a close family member, said: "It’s been hard obviously as you can imagine, trying to put it all back together, trying to rebuild financially and physically and seeing the impact that it's had on the family. It's been very, very worrying and stressful.

"It has had an impact on the community. For me, community is everything and we must all work together in building our community and local businesses. They’re important. It’s a place where people come together."

"We’re going to keep going and we’re not going to let anything negative bring us down because we love our community and we love our friends and family. 

"They have been really supportive and it’s nice to know that our hard work has been appreciated."

The family business will be offering a three day, half-price deal on pie and mash in honour of the reopening.

The refurbished restaurant has been given a new look following the incident, however the family have insisted it will be the same environment as it once was. 

April said: "They had to change the shop, it had to be done. It’s going to look a bit different but it’s still going to have that pie and mash shop feel."

The Metropolitan Police has been contacted for an update on the investigation into the crash.
