A pub restaurant chain's Dagenham venue was forced to close temporarily after the kitchen ceiling fell through.
Families planning on celebrating Mother's Day (March 10) at the Chequers Corner Brewers Fayre in New Road were unable to do so for much of the day as a result of the problem.
A spokesperson for the chain said: "Due to an unavoidable operational issue we unfortunately had to close our Chequers Corner, Brewers Fayre, in Dagenham yesterday for a few hours.
"We are sorry for any disappointment caused on this special day, but we are happy to confirm that thanks to the hard work of our team in managing the issue swiftly, we were able to welcome back customers from 6pm last night once all of the relevant checks had been done."

It is unclear what the cause of the problem was, although The Post was able to confirm with a member of staff that the ceiling in the kitchen fell through.
Facebook users have expressed their feelings about the incident, with one saying: "I cancelled this morning good job I did."
Another said: "I had a table booked there for 5pm, they called me and said they could move it to 6pm which we did and we had a lovely meal there".
