Wetherspoon has said it remains "committed" to reopening its Barking town centre pub.

The Barking Dog in Station Parade has been closed since 2022 amid ongoing housing development works. 

The pub chain reached a decision with Barking and Dagenham Council's regeneration arm Be First, that would see the boozer close to allow for the redevelopment of Trocoll House for 198 rentable apartments.

Be First initially said it would take two years to complete the 28-storey development, after which the pub would reopen at the same site.

With the two-year mark fast approaching, we reached out to Be First to get the latest on the progress. 

We were referred to Railpen, investment manager for the Railways Pension Scheme and a source of funding for the project, but did not receive a response.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoon said: “Wetherspoon is committed to reopening the pub.

“There are no timescales as yet as it depends on the date the developer hands over the site to Wetherspoon.

“Wetherspoon is not in control of that.”
