A development of more than 50 homes in Dagenham has been delayed, it has been confirmed.

Be First, Barking and Dagenham Council's regeneration arm, has provided The Post with the latest on the Brockelbank Lodge development, which is planned to introduce 53 new homes.

Of those, 37 are expected to be 'affordable' housing options, and 16 for people with disabilities. 

The site runs along Becontree Avenue and has seen little progress since demolition works began in 2022. 

A spokesperson for Be First said: “Brockelbank Lodge has now been demolished.

"There has been a delay to the proceedings, but we now have a brief, we will start the design and consultation process shortly.

"We expect to launch consultation and design later this year."

The update comes after locals in the area questioned the future of the housing plans after seeing a lack of activity on the site. 

One user commented anonymously, saying: "Does anyone know what’s happening to the “new homes” that are meant to be built on Becontree Avenue bordering Haydon/Bennetts Castle Road (sic) by the petrol garage.

"The ones with the pink boarders saying new homes coming soon? It’s been like that for a few years and I can’t find any info online."

Plans for the development were announced in 2020, with the first phase of consultations beginning in February 2021. 

An update on Be First's website dated from December 2021 said demolition works were planned "towards the end of January 2022, and will issue a newsletter to update you about the works which are expected to be completed by early March 2022".

As of now, pre-existing buildings on the site have been completely demolished, with no set goal in mind for the start of design and consultation. 

The Post requested pictures of the current site from Be First but were advised they had not been provided with these.
