Hundreds of new homes will be built in Barking and Dagenham by the end of June this year, according to a council company.
Be First, Barking and Dagenham Council's regeneration arm, estimates it will complete 900 new homes in the first half of 2024.
These new builds will boost 'affordable' housing across the borough, in locations such as the Gascoigne neighbourhood, Oxlow Lane and Thames Road.
The council and Be First are working with contractors including Mulally, Wates and McLaren to deliver these homes.
The 900 properties will consist of 158 market rent properties and 743 'affordable' homes, funded by the Government’s Affordable Home Programme.
Upon completion, the new homes will be marketed and available to rent.
Tim Porter, director of delivery at Be First, said: "Be First will continue providing safe, warm, high-quality homes for residents throughout 2024, as we handover 900 in the first half of the year alone."
Councillor Cameron Geddes added: "I’m delighted to say that in just the first six months of 2024 we’ll be completing nearly a thousand new homes in Barking and Dagenham, with the vast majority of these being affordable."
