A man from Dagenham has been jailed for a "horrific" attack that saw him throw boiling cooking oil over another man.
Ivan Bonaparte of Cambeys Road was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment at Snaresbrook Crown Court on January 10.
He was jailed for grievous bodily harm with intent after an incident in Dagenham last year that saw him throw a vat of boiling oil over the victim.
Det Insp James Rush said: “This was a horrific and unprovoked attack on an unsuspecting man, who is thankfully recovering well from the injuries sustained during this assault.
"I would like to thank him for his assistance in helping us secure this conviction.
"There is no excuse for this type of violence and our enquiries soon established his actions that evening were deliberate and inexcusable. My officers will continue to tackle violence, in all its forms.”
Police were called to an address in Dagenham on July 30 with reports from a man who had witnessed the attack.
The 33-year-old turned himself in at Dagenham police station after he was seen running from the scene of the attack equipped with a hammer.
His victim was a man aged in his 40s who suffered severe burns to his face, neck and back.
He required ongoing treatment in hospital following the attack.
