A four-mile nature trail has been laid out for walkers along the Thames waterfront in Barking.
Its aim is for public awareness of the endangered, protected and often hidden wildlife living by Barking Riverside.
The trail winds its way through Oystercatcher Park and the Thames foreshore where seals can be seen sunbathing on the shore.
Graphics and artworks have been put up along the route where people can get to know about water voles, bats, snakes and the rich bird life beside the Thames, along with listening to sound artworks made by artist Joseph June Bond and residents.
The trail is designed to respond to the area’s history as well as its wildlife, with permanent signage encouraging visitors to know more about these ecological areas.
A Wilds café run by residents of Barking is also open by the riverside from Tuesdays to Sundays.
