Walk or bike it to school and don’t get Mum or Dad to run you in the car.
That is the message from magician Al Cadabra for youngsters to have a “healthy and safe” way to and from lessons in a programme by Barking and Dagenham Council.
The local authority’s Be First regeneration arm teamed up with charity Sustrans to put on road safety magic shows in schools and take part in “The Big Walk and Wheel” competition.
“We want to make sure the message is sustained,” Be First’s transport planner Victoria Spashett said. “These magic shows teach youngsters all about road safety to encourage them to travel without the car.”
Six schools have so far staged magician Al Cadabra’s magic show – Village Infants, William Ford, Hunters Hall, Henry Green, Parsloes and Dorothy Barley Junior.
The travelling roadshow has been seen by almost one million children up and down the country since 2007.
