A textile artist who works at Barking and Dagenham College had her work selected as part of a global display at London Craft Week.
Creations by arts technician Claire Watkins were inspired by woodlands near her home and exhibited in the Future Icons exhibition on the Southbank.
Future Icons took over London’s iconic Oxo Tower Bargehouse on the Thames waterfront for the event, exhibiting the works of 70 internationally-acclaimed artisans, which attracted 2,000 visitors.
Claire was one of the 70 selected.
“We sponsored Claire for her professional development,” college skills events manager Zoe Richardson explained.
“It shows our students the relevance of their teachers as practising and professional artists.”
Claire’s creations are stitched components showing natural entities which have their own little vignette, some with glass domes which help protect them along with a snapshot of their world.
