A Co-op store has re-opened with a new look, following three weeks of refurbishment.

The 1,800 sq ft store re-launched on Friday (March 24) in Rose Lane, Marks Gate.

The store, which supports 12 local jobs, has introduced a soft plastic recycle unit which will recycle products including crisp packets, bread bags, lids from ready meals, yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and pet food pouches.

This will then be recycled, in the UK, and turned into useful items – such as boards for the construction industry, bin bags and rigid plastic items such as buckets.

This means that all Co-op’s own food packaging is recyclable through either local authority kerbside collections, or its in-store soft plastic recycling unit.

Store manager Kajen Kanthasamy said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to launch our new-look store, and really looking forward to welcoming the community back into their Co-op after a three-week programme of improvements – it has a great new look and feel."
