A Turkish restaurant in Dagenham has won an award recognising it as one of the best kebab restaurants in Britain.

Lara Grill received the accolade at the eleventh annual British Kebab Awards.

The Whalebone Lane South eatery was 'highly commended' in the category 'Cobra Best Kebab Restaurant in South and East London'.

Mehmet Akcay, of Lara Grill, said: "We are honoured to win awards. It is good to see our hard work [being] awarded.

"It is also very motivating, making us want to do better."

Mehmet said the restaurant won in the same category in 2019, and "always" expect to win awards for their kebabs.

He continued:"I personally think that Essex has the best Turkish restaurants in the country - you can go to any restaurant and get served good Mediterranean food.

"At Lara Grill, we use only the best ingredients. We receive daily meat, fish and fresh vegetable deliveries to be used on the day and the next day.

"We [also] carefully check every dish coming out from the kitchen."
