Screams were reportedly heard by neighbours who spoke after an 11-year-old boy's death in a flat fire.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene of the blaze in Stern Close, which firefighters were called to just before 3.30am today (March 7).
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said the three-roomed flat on the second floor of the building was "destroyed" by the fire.
The entire building was evacuated by the brigade although some families have been allowed to return, according to The Mirror.
A neighbour, who asked not to be named, told The Mirror she was woken up around 3.30am by shouting.
She said: "I woke up this morning and I could hear all this shouting - there was smoke everywhere.
"There’s a lot of kids that live in that block.
"It’s absolutely tragic. That poor boy."
Another nearby resident told the same paper: “We heard screaming when it first happened."
Two adults and two children left the flat before firefighters arrived and were all taken to hospital.
None were in a life-threatening condition, police said.
A further man was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
A Met Police spokesperson said the cause of the fire is under investigation but it does not appear to be suspicious.
