A man is in hospital after he was allegedly attacked by a group of men armed with knives.

Police were called yesterday morning (January 27) at 1.15pm to reports of a man being assaulted in Gascoigne Road, Barking.

Police said that a 28-year-old man had allegedly been attacked by a group of males armed with weapons, including knives. 

A man suffering stab injuries was taken by ambulance to hospital. His condition has since been assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.

A police spokesperson said: “Two men, aged 18 and 21, were arrested near to the scene on suspicion of assault.

"They have both been taken to an east London police station where they remain in custody. Enquiries continue.”

A crime scene is in place and a section 60 had been authorised for the IG11 postcode.

A section 60 order gives police enhanced stop and search powers if they believe there is the possibility of serious violence. This allows officers to search people without reasonable grounds.

Police said the order was necessary so that officers could work to keep people safe.
