A charity shop deputy manager who got a “buzz” from opening new branches all over east London has passed away.
Carole Ann Reeves, who was deputy manager of Saint Francis Hospice shops from 1991 to 2002, died aged 79 in September.
For the 11 years after that, the Rush Green woman helped to open new hospice shops in Hornchurch, Romford, Harold Hill and Barkingside.
Her daughter Nicky Charman said: “She absolutely loved seeing the shops open, getting everything ready and how everyone worked as a team – she got such a buzz out of it.
“So much work went on behind the scenes to get a shop up and running.
“It was a really special time in her life and it was the only job she loved.”
As Carole’s husband Michael used to dress windows for Harrods, he also helped spruce up the branches.
One of Carole’s proudest moments, Nicky said, was opening the hospice’s bridal shop Special Moments in Collier Row.
“I got married and donated my wedding dress there,” said Nicky.
“Mum never wanted to leave but in the end she left to be nearer to me and her four grandchildren in Cornwall.”
Carole’s family will be raising money for Saint Francis Hospice at her funeral, which is scheduled to take place today (October 20) at at Penmount Crematorium, Kernow Chapel, Truro.
Nicky said: “We could not think of a better charity to support.”
Carole leaves behind her husband Michael, daughter Nicky, son-in-law Mathew, and her grandchildren Michael, William, Lauren and Victoria.
Saint Francis Hospice supports people who have been diagnosed with a serious illness in Havering, Brentwood, Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge and West Essex.
